James Schaffer
I built AlbumScan because I kept freezing up in record stores, surrounded by thousands of albums. I'd spot something interesting but have no idea if it was actually good, what genre it was, or if it was one of the artist's better works. Googling felt clunky and broke the flow of digging. So I made a tool that lets you point your phone at any album cover and instantly get the context you need, the cultural significance, unique AI generated rating and categorization, key tracks. It's like having a music historian in your pocket while you browse the bins. I had to create two tiers: one that uses the existing context of OpenAI, and another that enables search. The base level is good with any album you would find online, and the ultra version adds in search to id newer albums or stuff with no text on the cover. Unfortunately, I do have to charge for this application, as the queries are quite expensive, particularly search. Nonetheless, I find it valuable for myself, and I hope others enjoy it too!
