I’m the solo builder behind Veila, a privacy-first AI chat service I wished existed but couldn’t find.
A lot of us now share incredibly personal thoughts with AI assistants—ideas, fears, future plans, health concerns, career decisions. But with most tools, all of that is tied to your identity and stored on someone else’s servers, indefinitely. Even if you trust today’s policies, tomorrow’s might be different.
So I built Veila to make private AI chat the default, not a luxury:
What it does
- Anonymous AI chat: messages are proxied through Veila’s servers, so model providers see us—not your IP, not your account
- End-to-end encrypted history: your chat history is encrypted with a key derived from your password and never leaves your device
- Bring-your-own usage: pay-as-you-go, no subscriptions or lock-in
- Flagship models, switch mid-conversation: OpenAI today, others like Gemini and Claude soon
- Practical UX: web search, folders, Markdown, copyable code blocks, mobile-friendly interface
Who it’s for
Anyone who wants the value of modern flagship AI models without sacrificing their data:
journalists, founders, doctors, students, researchers—or just people who don’t want their prompts building an advertising profile.
What Veila is not
It’s not self-hosted and prompts still go to third-party AI APIs, so if you include identifying details in your messages, the upstream model sees them. I’m actively working on making the threat model clearer and would love your feedback here.
