GET YOUR BRAIN IMPLANTS

It’s happening. Elon Musk’s startup Neuralink will begin recruiting for its first human trials, where a robot implants a chip in your brain.

Sorry Musk-eteers, you can’t just volunteer up any brain, Severance-style. The hope is that Neuralink will help people with hard-to-treat conditions. You’ll be eligible for the study if you have paralysis due to cervical spinal cord injury or ALS.

ChatGPT gets DALLE 3

OpenAI announced DALL·E 3 yesterday and the keyword here is “nuance.”

We love AI art as much as anyone, but admittedly, sometimes it’s a flop. It can be hard to get exactly what you’re hoping for, so much so that we’ve seen a ton of prompt engineering products created to help you get better output from AI tools.

OpenAI says that DALL·E 3 is better at that nuance and detail than its predecessors so that now you can “easily translate your ideas into exceptionally accurate images.” DALL·E 3 better adheres to exactly the text you provide.

Check out the header image above, derived from the prompt: “An expressive oil painting of a basketball player dunking, depicted as an explosion of a nebula.” The image on the right from DALL·E 3 has a much clearer and more recognizable basketball dunk than the image on the left from DALL·E 2.

The other way you capture nuance is by integrating ChatGPT with DALL¡E 3. This makes it easier to ask for an image without being an expert at prompts.

That all sounds like bad news for Midjourney, but at least for the moment, DALL¡E 3 will only be available to ChatGPT Plus and Enterprise users first. Access will come to its API service in the fall.

By the way, we won’t see any Pope Drip come out of ChatGPT. DALL·E 3 won’t recreate images of public figures if mentioned by name (betting the internet will find some way around that).
