Jason Shannon

Architect playing software designer

About

My name is Jason, I run my own award winning architecture firm focusing on residential buildings and interiors, so I don't have a tech background. What I do have is an understanding of what it takes to design something with a clear vision and focus on the details. The problem I wanted to solve was an overwhelming series of email inboxes from my architecture work to my daughter's school schedule. I also am a little embarrassed to admit, I get my expectations of AI from popular culture, like Jarvis from Iron Man. The goal for my app Marlowe is to create an app that is as automated and genuinely helpful as possible.

How much money do you think is enough to start and launch a startup?

A lot of people try to raise funding before they even begin.

And then sometimes I read those zero to hero stories. (Maybe they re a bit "polished" by the media to have publicity.)

In any case, building products has become much easier from a technical perspective, which also makes it cheaper especially for software startups.

I tried to vibe-code my way to a SaaS… and failed

Last summer, the idea for my SaaS, Xolora, started to take shape. Around the same time, the concept of vibe coding was blowing up. As a non-technical founder, it sounded like a dream come true. No coding experience? No problem, just let AI handle it.

The beginning was incredibly promising. Using Emergent made me feel unstoppable. I was seeing my idea come to life.

What’s the best use of AI you’ve seen so far?

Many of us use it for text generation, image generation, and making tasks fast.

That is something repetitive, and over one week or so, it is not so mindblowing anymore.
