I created the first version of Tally in high school because I couldn't find a good character counter with a dark mode. I've added a bunch of cool features over the years like themes, multilingual support, and additional stats. Tally doesn't have any ads or require signing up. It's also free and open source. There's no catches here; I made Tally to help me write better. Tally is a free online tool to count the number of characters, words, paragraphs, and lines in your text. It can also show counts for different types of characters and runs entirely in your browser, with no accounts, ads, or privacy-invasive tracking. Unlike many tools, it supports multiple languages, computes counts in real-time, and offers a modern, themeable interface (including dark mode).
