I have encountered this situation multiple times: the smoke detector (or the torch, or the remote control) suddenly calls for a new battery, but there are no replacement batteries available, or not enough of them. So I decided to build an app to help me with that. As well as keeping an inventory of replacement batteries, I thought I could also calculate the remaining lifetime of the ones in use.
