What's great
Excellent product, truly a competitor to loom. The app loads instantly, records instantly and uploads to a shareable link almost instantly. The freedom to change the camera frame and edit post recording is great. The design and layout of the actual viewing page itself tied with a custom domain is unbeatable. The summaries, chapters, comments and transcripts make things so much more delightful for the people who have to view the video, especially for more technical videos. Cap kept crashing when I first installed it but hopped onto the Discord and it got fixed within hours.
And.....its open source, waiting for a free weekend to get Cap setup on my own VPS.
What needs improvement
How secure is data at rest and in transit?
I can't speak for Cap's security practises but of-course but if you self-host the platform with your own VPS and s3 buckets then its a secure as you want it to be.
Does text search work well across recordings and transcripts?
I wasn't aware of text search in cap currently, that would be a great feature though.
Can you self-host completely without external services?
I believe there is still a license although
