At the launch of a new product, it s easy to be wowed by something fresh and clever. But over time, as many similar products appear, those sparks fade. I realize I haven t had a true aha moment in a while. Maybe that s just a natural phase of evolution. Still, I m looking forward hoping the next one is just around the corner.

As AI continues to evolve, one design axis I find myself circling back to is autonomy vs control. When you're building whether a data tool, an assistant, or something fully autonomous how much agency do you hand over to the AI?

We ve seen huge progress in the past year tools that talk, summarize, visualize, and even generate reports automatically.

But still something feels missing.

Most teams say they spend more time fixing data than thinking with it.

When we first built Powerdrill, our mission was simple: make data analysis accessible to everyone no SQL, no code, just questions and answers. And it worked. Users loved how quickly they could get insights.

But over time, we noticed something important:
