Do you think early users care about design or just function?

I ve been thinking about how much design quality actually matters in the earliest stages of a product.

Some users don t seem to mind rough edges if the tool genuinely solves a problem. Others instantly bounce if the UI doesn t feel trustworthy.

From a Flower Shop to College to Building an AI-Powered Virtual Journal App

Hello,

My name is Fatima. I studied philosophy, then spent five years working in a flower shop before returning to college for Social Service Work. I ve held various jobs bakeries, haunted houses, and a concession stand at a hockey arena. Throughout, I ve maintained a fascination in how people think, feel, and engage with the world.

From Project Manager to Maker - chasing my dream as a developer

Hey Makers,

I recently left my project management job at a big company to follow my dream of becoming a solo developer and maker. I m still new to this community, but it already feels like home.

So far, I ve been building projects mostly around AI and Education:

  • BookChunk: an AI tool that summarizes, quizzes, and chats with PDF books (still refining summary quality and reducing costs).

  • Xformly: turns Excel sheets into online forms (currently struggling with large file handling).

  • MiniDocuments: my latest launch - short, step-by-step tech PDF tutorials for fast learning.

  • Now I m working on my next idea - AI-generated tutorials - and honestly, it s full of challenges.

What’s your “digital burnout” moment that made you rethink your habits?

I recently hit a weird kind of burnout not from overworking, but from being constantly online.

Between coding, Slack, Twitter, YouTube, and checking analytics, my brain never really rests.

Even when I take a break, I open another app.
