Ramsey Elkholy

Guitarist, Producer, and Anthropologist

About

Ramsey Elkholy is a guitarist, producer, songwriter, and anthropologist who founded Monotronic in 2016 as a collaborative indietronica collective. He designed the project as a shared creative current where instruments blend and evolve together. Centered on a communal spirit, the band values group expression over individual spotlight. Each musician contributes distinct textures and ideas, resulting in music that feels expansive, layered, and unified in purpose. Elkholy’s scholarly background plays a vital role in shaping his artistic voice. He holds a PhD in Anthropology and authored Being and Becoming: Embodiment and Experience Among the Orang Rimba of Sumatra. His research examined rainforest foragers in Indonesia and the deep ties between environment, ritual, and identity.
