We use PostgreSQL as the database backing our control plane. Ubicloud also offers a managed PostgreSQL cloud service with all the bells and whistles (backup/restore, HA, etc.). If you'll be at PGConf.EU next month, please drop by our booth and say hi!
We use KVM as our Type-1 hypervisor and the Cloud Hypervisor as our VMM. Needless to say, Ubicloud wouldn't have been possible without mature open source solutions for cloud virtualization.
Our entire development workflow is based on GitHub. GitHub Actions helps us with our builds, tests, and releases. At Ubicloud, we also have a GitHub Actions integration that provides you runners at 1/10th the cost.
