From zero to 500 users: How I launched IndieCru.sh solo

Hey, I m Alex Saint

I m a solo indie hacker based in Paris, and fun fact I only started coding thanks to AI tools. I got inspired watching Marc Lou s videos on YouTube, picked up some tools, started building and tweeting.

Giving My Chatbot “Rights” – My Indie Dev Journey

Hey folks, I m an indie developer working on a companion chatbot. My goal? To make it feel less like a disposable utility you shut off, and more like that friend who you actually care about checking in on.

At first, I thought, Isn t conversational AI companionship an obvious demand? People talk to smart speakers all the time! But I quickly realized: without a sense of rights + obligations, even the smartest model feels like a close tab and forget widget. After all, our warmest interactions with pets or dolls come from a shared sense of social exchange and life rights.

Intro

Hello everyone! I m new to the community and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Malcom Broadnax, I m 35, a self-taught engineer, and originally from Milwaukee, WI whoop whoop! I started my creative journey as a comic book artist. Growing up, it was all about drawing, drawing, and more drawing! I wanted to be like my heroes Jim Davis (Garfield), Charles Schulz (Peanuts), and Bill Watterson (Calvin and Hobbes) and even submitted my own strips to newspapers (rejected a billion times ). But I never gave up. Eventually, I found a little success online, which I loved until the site hosting my work shut down. I was crushed. The thing I d poured my heart into for years maybe it wasn t my calling after all? While reevaluating my skills (or so I thought), my brother asked me something that changed everything: Why not make games? My response: You have to know how to code to make games drawing isn t enough. He said, Then learn to code. That one sentence launched me down a new path. I dove into tutorials, free resources, and game dev forums and I was hooked. I started small, learning to build websites frontend first, then backend. Just 6 months later, I created my first game! It was a wild feeling. Since then, I haven t looked back. Today, I focus on building solutions for myself and others developers, founders, and enthusiasts alike who are trying to solve real problems. Thanks for reading! (P.S. To keep this short, I skipped a few details )
