I purchased SafetyWing because I was already traveling and my former insurance company wouldn't accept an extension. Most other insurance companies that offer travel insurance services do not allow you to purchase your policy if you are already abroad. Even some put a 14 day hold of claims period, in which if something happens, you are most likely to not get coverage. SafetyWing, through their Nomad Insurance product, offered me protection since day 1 at 00:00 from the date of purchase (the first day of my trip extension). I paid a reasonable amount for a 43 day trip and two weeks later I continued my trip from Spain (Barcelona) to Indonesia (Bali). Once arriving in Bali, I enjoyed the island for a night and the next night was admitted at an urgent care clinic 10 minutes away from my hotel. The total bill for that emergency visit was less than USD 1,000.-, I paid and kept medical records and the receipt for further claiming purposes. 14 days passed and I enjoyed many beaches and destinations within the Island. The day of my trip back to Barcelona I got "Bali Belly" (travelers Gastrointestinal Infection/Disease), and I was not able to board my flights. After attending BIMC Kuta Hospital for an emergency visit, they recommended 3/4 day in hospitalization. I paid for a deposit that the Hospital refunded me when they got the GOP (Guarantee of Payment) from the Insurance. After that all costs where covered by SafetyWing. While returning from Indonesia to Spain on the plain and free of diseases, I was able to successfully place six claims for all expenses incurred (2 emergency visits, 2 follow ups and 2 out of pocket expenses claims). These claims were submitted on a Friday, by Monday, I already had the money DEPOSITED into my account (payment was a US domestic ACH). Overall I recommended SafetyWing's Nomad Insurance product to all my friends abroad and at home, I wish that the experience continues to be this good in the future as I will continue purchasing this insurance product when I travel abroad.
