I worked at Amazon for nine years, and when I started searching for a new job outside Amazon, I thought companies would be begging to talk to me. I drank the Kool-Aid and definitely had an ego. Over 80 job applications in and not making the progress I had hoped for, I decided I had to do something different. So I created a website for myself (HireMikeStaley.com) with help from Claude. Lo and behold, I had two job offers within a week from companies I was in late stages with that were impressed I took the initiative to create the site. It dawned on me that other job seekers might benefit from having a website so they can stand out during job applications, because everyone else these days is also using AI to rewrite their resume.
