What's great
Thoughtful design in both the beauty and simplicity of the UI and the overall user experience. Genuinely a creative and unique idea executed really well.
What needs improvement
Performance can be an issue, but can easily be fixed with a few minor tweaks to the code.
User input is key to motivating users to keep coming back and to keep the pressure off the builder. The only drawback will be moderation. The builder should also consider this from a legal perspective — where do they stand legally. Do they have permission to share this, will it face publisher resistance?
vs Alternatives
They're different products. This summary is a lot more interactive, parsable and doesn't include audio. Both of them have a place. There's no charge for this product now, which is good, but I expect there'll be some aim of monetisation, even if it is just to support the settling of maintenance costs.
Is metadata like author, title, and ISBN reliable?
As far as I could tell, yes.
How well does it work on mobile and tablets?
It's pretty good, better than the web version.
Are load times fast for image-heavy pages?
No. But they're not bad either. It would only take a tiny bit of work to optimise the page's performance. It's very good for a beta launch.

What's great
It's super powerful, completely configurable and extremely effective at correcting any issues that may come up from time-to-time that effect speed or performance. It's created and maintained by just one guy and has been since 2003. The best thing is that it's completely free.
What needs improvement
The UI is very 2003, so some mightn't be so enamoured with its appearance. But I personally find it has a certain charm. It's no-frills design gives me faith that the time's been invested primarily in the product.
vs Alternatives
Others are often heavy-handed with MacOS. They're resource-intensive, intrusive and they don't actually do much work. Onyx is lightweight, runs only when you want it to and actually does more than any paid product.
Does Onyx support Apple Silicon Macs natively?
Yes, 100%. It's updated for every release.
Does Onyx offer one-click maintenance presets?
Yes, absolutely. There are a lot of options which may be intimidating to someone unfamiliar with how MacOS works, but it's a great way to learn about your computer.
Are there risks of deleting important files or settings?
Not in my experience. But I can't say for sure. Others who perhaps click without much knowledge might unwittingly delete system files that matter.

What's great
Simple, but really effective with lots of different high quality soundscape options.
What needs improvement
Sometimes the audio will stop and start, like it's a long, already rendered sound rather than a generated sound.
It can have issues when you switch between devices.
vs Alternatives
I didn't really find something that quite matches Noizio in its UI and UX. It was exactly what I was looking for.
How well does it integrate with macOS audio controls?
Mostly well. If you have a more complex audio set up, it can sometimes default to the wrong audio when you switch between outputs
Can you use it offline without internet connection?
Yes, it's great offline. I use it on the train to help me focus when I'm working on a commute.
Are there updates adding new sounds or improvements regularly?
I haven't had it long enough. There are a lot of options though.

What's great
Lightweight
Supports markdown, which is faster than using cursor-based text changes
Supports a variety of command-based interactions, which is preferable
It's free
Community plug-ins
Wide customizability
What needs improvement
File structure isn't always the easiest way to interact with vault
UI can get cluttered when you use a lot of community plug-ins
vs Alternatives
Markdown language acceptance, preference for keyboard control of applications, command-centred UI, scale for customisation and community plug-ins
How customizable are themes without editing code?
You can download themes that others have created. I can't code, but it's pretty basic code so you can customise it quite easily.
Does mobile editing feel fast and dependable?
I haven't tried it yet, but I intend to once I get Obsidian Sync.
Does Obsidian replace your previous note-taking tool effectively?
Yes, it does. I need to do more work to maintain Obsidian, but it's necessary work that's good practice for strong organisational skills and effectiveness in the long-term.
