Longtime beta user, but like the rest of HN, I couldn't be more disappointed by the decision to choose a subscription billing model for an email client. I likely would have bought in if this were a freemium or one-time license + optional new feature upgrades were offered like other relevant software a la Sublime or JetBrains products to name a few. It was also a big letdown to, after using your...

This looks like a cool concept, and thanks for open sourcing it! What was your motivation for creating a menu bar app vs using Google Translate in the browser? Did you end up using Google Translate or another API?

Pretty cool idea. The $99 price point feels a little high to me for what is basically a small wireless digital photo frame. It would be interesting to see if they added some interactivity features to it, kinda like https://bt.tn/.

Nice app. Looks like this could be a good intersection of Google Keep and iA Writer. Any chance we'll see an iOS version?

Nice find. This can be super useful when traveling internationally on a limited data plan. Using Google Maps to save offline maps when on wifi has saved me a lot on mobile data charges. That said, having to download maps in advance doesn't always work with the serendipity of travel. I hope they do an iOS release too, or if this is really just an embedded web app, publicize that more.

Not sure I'd be comfortable giving a third party app access to my Robinhood credentials?! Especially since the official Robinhood for Web was announced last month. https://www.producthunt.com/posts/robinhood-for-web

Hey Pieter - Congrats on the 3.0 launch and keep up the good work! I've been a fan since v1 and glad to see its evolution. Are you still doing a subscription model? I'm curious to hear how you've handled growth vs monetization with scale. And what you use to measure user engagement with the way you rapidly prototype features? Even though I know we disagree when it comes to approach on...

This looks pretty cool. I'd be curious to know where all you're sourcing events from? How do you think Hood-Guide compares to Facebook Local? The Local app has been fulfilling the FOMO use case for me lately. By the way, I see a high volume of spammy events in my city from Eventbrite. Stuff like "make money online now in 3 EZ steps". Anything you can do to filter those out?

Congrats on the launch! As any early beta user on public code, I was really impressed by Kite and my only concern was ability to use it on private codebases ie, work code. Glad to see that you've addressed that. Does the Sublime integration support packages installed in the current virtual environment (that might not be publicly available)?

Great question about the utility of a Master's or MBA for someone going down the VP Engineering / CTO track. I really like Julia's suggestion of seeking out a program with a niche for what you want to do rather than just getting one as a prereq. It's really nice to see how HBS's offerings have evolved based on real needs from startup founders in recent years.
