What social media features do you miss from the early days?
I've been building a social app and realized I'm basically trying to recreate features that disappeared over the years - Top Friends rankings, pokes/prods, profile customization.
Modern platforms optimized everything for engagement metrics and ad revenue. We lost a lot of the playful, human elements that made social media actually social.
What features do you miss?
MySpace Top 8?
Facebook pokes?
Chronological feeds?
Profile customization?
Away messages (ok that's showing my age)?
NorseHorse - Top Friends, prods, and real connections
NorseHorse brings back features that made early social media fun - before algorithms and ads.
What makes it different:
Top Friends rankings (MySpace-style) based on real interactions - compete to stay in each other's top spots
Prods - remember pokes? Stay connected without the pressure of messaging
Streaks & achievements that reward genuine engagement
End-to-end encrypted messaging, no ads, no data selling
Modern platforms optimize for ad revenue. NorseHorse optimizes for actual connection.
