I started my professional life as a software developer, first with enterprise Java and most recently iOS (Objective-C and Swift), and then moved over to the product management side. Working in the client services and agency world, maintaining a good culture can be a challenge, especially in technical fields where extroverts are the exception. In any field, recognition is a great way to improve culture, and most of the existing tools were focused on, essentially, giving people money. In my view this is the role of compensation, not your peers. I enjoy working on Accolader as it is one of the few recognition systems that is not based on monetary or points-based recognition.
