What fascinates me about agents is that these programs have agency they can perform an action and then reason about the response they receive. The ability to make choices and act upon them in a goal-directed manner implies autonomy, intentionality, and the capacity to influence one's environment or situation. For example, in the context of AI or programs, agency would mean having the ability to evaluate situations, decide on actions, and adapt based on the outcomes essentially showing a form of purposeful behavior.
