About

I’m an artist, educator, and founder of bufferty.com, a slow social platform designed to counter the overload of mainstream media. Tired of nonstop updates and shrinking attention spans, I built Bufferty to encourage pause and reflection. The name comes from buffering—that moment of waiting once common on early computers like my Sinclair ZX81. Back then, delay meant space to think and dream. Bufferty revives that idea: a mindful pause in a world moving too fast. It’s an experiment—a gentle resistance to endless scrolling—inviting people to slow down, regain focus, and imagine differently.

Do you ever think we are to distracted from the things that really matter by things that don't?

It was when I first caught myself trapped in a continuous scroll, having forgotten what I was meant to be doing and totally distracted by the constant supply of information, that I began to think something odd was happening. This got me thinking, how fast is too fast? How much is too much? Our recent technologies have evolved way quicker than our brains have. It's challenging to keep up; it's equally difficult to stop. To jump off and refocus. We seem to be sucked into a never-ending spiral of information consumption. I can see it not just in my own children but also in the students I teach. There is an attention deficit. And this is something that has happened quickly. The ability to focus and stay on task has changed dramatically in the past five years. And it is omnipresent. We are all caught in the nets of the big social media platforms. What was once a useful and meaningful tool has now become a invasive bombardment of information. A whirlpool of adverting sucking us into the dark abyss. Feeling helpless, I knew I wanted to do something. To at least try to make some kind of change. To try and offer some kind of alternative. So I develop Bufferty. Even if my kids and their friends use it I think I will have made a small positive impact. But imagine if more people felt the same, more people thought yes that's right I'm going to signup. Then slowly we would have a slow movement. Like minded individuals reclaiming their thought freedom. I would love you hear your thoughts and feedback. This is an experiment more than a product. A website/app that helps me is some small way feel better by trying to make a difference.

Bufferty.com Slow social media platform - Time Unfolds, patience reveals what haste conceals

Slow social media is a calmer way to share online where posts unfold over time, reducing doomscrolling and encouraging mindful viewing. Unlike traditional platforms that prioritise instant engagement and algorithmic feeds, slow social media platforms like Bufferty embrace patience as part of the creative experience. Our platform specialises in time-release images and gradual image reveals—photos that progressively become visible over 7 or 28 days.
