Find the right people, set the right goals, and let them do their best work. If I start to micro-manage, it's just an indicator that I need to look for other people. I think there is no point in trying to change people's behavior or micro-manage them. Most of the time it doesn't work. If you find the right people, you don't have to.

I use a very simple method. I use kitchen timer to split work into 45 minutes sessions. I have a sheet of paper on my refrigerator. On this paper I have a table where rows are days of the week and columns are projects I am working on. After each working session I put a cross in the corresponding project cell. This helps me analyze my time spent on tasks over the week.

I try to focus on small goals. Making progress on a regular basis adds up to something great. That's my remedy.
