Our users create accounts they never use, just to look at one thing.

We analyzed account creation behavior across 11,000 signups over 6 months.

Signups who viewed exactly one page and left: 23%
Median time from signup to last action for that group: 4m 10s
Most common single page: a shared document or a public example
Signups who returned within 30 days: 6%

Nearly a quarter of our signups were people who wanted to see one specific thing that someone had shared with them. They did not want an account. They wanted access. We were making them create a password, verify an email, and complete a profile so they could look at a single page for four minutes.

We raised prices 60%. Nobody left.

We had been charging $29 per month for 2 years. We raised it to $47 for new customers on January 1. Existing customers were grandfathered for 6 months, then moved to the new price with a 60-day notice.

What happened:

  • New customer conversion rate dropped from 3.1% to 2.6% in the first 60 days, then recovered to 3.0% by month 4

  • Existing customers who churned specifically citing the increase: 7 out of 340 (2.1%)

  • MRR went up 41% in 5 months

  • Support ticket volume stayed flat

  • The number of customers on the lowest tier dropped, which reduced our support load

The 7 who left were all on the lowest usage tier. They were also the 7 who generated the most support tickets per dollar. Losing them was not a cost.

Do you have an actual rule for what you won't paste into an AI tool, or is it a gut feeling?

I keep noticing myself paste things into ChatGPT or Claude without a second thought. A contract. A customer email.
A snippet of code with an API key still in it.

I don't have a written rule. It's more of a "this feels fine" or "this feels sketchy" in the moment.

Curious whether anyone here has actually formalized this. What's on your never-paste list, and what made you draw that line?
