Engineer. I build the matcher behind face2social — one photo goes in, the profiles wearing that face on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and X come out. Everyone benchmarks face search on clean studio portraits. Nobody has those. I spend my days on the ugly half: 140 px, 14 KB, a crop of a screenshot of a group photo, sunglasses, a beard grown since, a wide lens bending the whole face. On the last run that input returned the same 80 matches as the 546 KB original — that number is the one I actually care about. I will also tell you exactly where it fails. Against a generated face there is no original to find, so every tool in this category comes back clean and the answer is worthless. Ask me the uncomfortable questions.
