About

I started out working in Japan as an educator and started a volunteer organization for the US embassy in Tokyo. Afterwards, I returned to the US for software engineering. My area of expertise is the customer journey, learned while working for Apple, and building practical tools for businesses.

AI is a force multiplier that makes engineers more valuable and possibly risky

I didn t realize how expensive the #INBDE process was for dental students until someone close to me started studying for it. The exam itself cost over $1,000 and prep materials can easily add hundreds more.
So I built Teefs Prep

Before AI, building a product e2e, even for highly skilled engineers was quite daunting. Code was never the barrier to entry but building a full-stack application, by hand, was time consuming.
That isn't to say you can't one shot an application over the weekend. Building a tool or an app that's well thought-out and scalable still requires a lot of time and energy. But, time to execution has significantly shrunk.

Engineers have now, more than ever, stronger levers to build their own tools, apps and businesses much more efficiently. I started Teefs to address a problem I saw with current study solutions for the INBDE, a high up-front cost to students. And, I've managed to build the app and run it at very low monthly costs, less than $100.
If you're interested in education tech or you are already a #dentist and want to help improve our questions as an editor, I'd love to hear your feedback.
One thing I ve always liked about the software community is how much knowledge is shared openly. A lot of the tools we use every day exist because people decided to build and share them. So, why can't INBDE prep work more like that too?

If I was a dental student studying for the INBDE I'd start with this.

Dental school: $250,000
Dental school materials: $20,000

Room and Board: $130,000

Not to mention miscellaneous costs and surprises like a blown car transmission and medical bills to name a few.
When I first heard these numbers from someone close to me applying to dental school as an international dentist, I couldn't believe what I was seeing - $400,000.
And, after she already paid her $1,300 exam bill, she needed to find a way to scrape together another $500 for advanced prep study tools that expire in 6 months. That's when I saw an opportunity to build Teefs Prep.
The INBDE is a standardize exam that evaluates a candidate's clinical judgment, problem-solving skills, and scientific knowledge to safely practice entry-level dentistry.
Teefs Prep is a completely free for dental students and simulates INBDE style questions, generated by AI. I'm first and foremost a software engineer, but formerly an educator and avid studier. I built everything students need to get a free boost in their studies while paving the road for growth, and improvement along the way.

Teefs Prep - Practice questions, track progress for dental students

Every other INBDE study tool buries you in videos, flashcards, and games and confusing UX. Not to mention, all of these services cost dental students hundreds of dollars for a few months of use. Teefs Prep was designed to fill that gap by offering a high quality user centric app for free that works on every device.
