I built TextGrab because extracting a small piece of text from your screen shouldn't require taking a screenshot, uploading it to a website, or manually typing it out.
The idea is simple: press a shortcut, select anything on your screen, and get editable text in seconds.
I wanted the experience to feel like a native macOS utility while keeping the core OCR workflow completely local.
TextGrab is open source, so I'm particularly interested in feedback from macOS users and developers:
TextGrab is a native macOS OCR utility that turns anything on your screen into editable text. Press a shortcut, select a region, and instantly copy the extracted text to your clipboard. Built with Swift, SwiftUI, Vision, and ScreenCaptureKit, TextGrab supports Text, Code & Table modes, multi-monitor setups, clipboard history, and local OCR processing. It’s fast, privacy-focused, and open source — built as a simple alternative to cloud-based OCR tools.
