About

I co-founded Parkbus in 2010 to solve a simple problem: incredible parks and small towns that people couldn't reach without a car. It grew into Canada's national outdoor transportation network, with MOUs signed with Parks Canada and VIA Rail, a Sustainable Tourism Award from the Tourism Industry Association of Canada, and a finalist nod for the World Travel & Tourism Council's Tourism for Tomorrow Innovation Award. Along the way I secured $1.1M+ in grants and sponsorship from partners like TD Bank, BC Parks, and MEC, and built the coalition-based approach behind it: get the right stakeholders (operators, Indigenous Nations, DMOs, government) at the table early, prototype with real trips and real visitors, then build the final plan on what actually happened.

We got 50,000 visitors last month but only 40 signups. Our landing page is broken.

I just pulled our analytics for October, and I feel sick looking at it. We finally cracked the code on traffic our SEO efforts and a few viral TikToks brought in 50,000 unique visitors last month. I was thrilled. I thought we were about to hit our first $10k MRR milestone.

Then I looked at the actual conversions. Out of those 50,000 people, only 40 created an account. That s a conversion rate of 0.08%.

I ve spent the last week analyzing session recordings, and it's painful to watch. People are landing on the page, scrolling around for about 15 seconds, and then leaving.

I showed the page to a friend, and he pointed out the obvious: our headline is way too vague. We wrote it for ourselves (we know what the product does), but a cold visitor has no idea what problem we are actually solving. Our call-to-action (CTA) is also buried at the bottom. We were so focused on getting traffic that we completely neglected the message for the people arriving.

Raised our price by 20%. We lost 15% of customers but revenue jumped. Did I mess up?

We launched our SaaS at a low "early adopter" price two years ago. It was great for getting feedback, but by month 18, our support costs were eating us alive. We were attracting users who wanted everything for $9/mo but needed 3 hours of onboarding each.

Three weeks ago, we bit the bullet and raised our base plan from $19 to $23 (a 20% increase) for all new customers. We grandfathered existing users for 6 months to soften the blow.

The immediate reaction was a mix of silence and a few angry emails. Over the next 21 days, our new signups dropped by about 15% compared to the previous month. I panicked. I thought we had priced ourselves out of the market.

But when I pulled the revenue report this morning, our MRR from new customers was actually up 8%. The users who did sign up were much more serious, asked fewer support questions, and converted to annual plans faster.
