Are We Relying Too Much on AI to Build Products?

Hey PH community,

I ve been noticing a shift more and more products these days are AI-powered, AI-enhanced, or just... AI everything.

While the possibilities are exciting, I sometimes wonder:

  • Are we moving too fast without fully thinking through the problems we re solving?

  • Are we relying on AI because it s trendy or because it genuinely improves the product?

What is Vertical AI?

Here's everything you need to know

Vertical AI is made up of 3 core products:

Vertical Stream all AI models in one place

Not everything needs AI

These days, almost every product that launches comes with some form of AI. It's become the default AI for this, AI for that. And honestly, most of them don t really need it. The result? Everything starts to feel the same. The only real selling point becomes we use AI.

That s exactly why I started building @HumanEye because not every problem should be solved by AI. Some things, like resume reviews and career guidance, still deserve the human touch. Real feedback, from real people.

Would love to hear your thoughts:

  • Are we overusing AI just for the sake of hype?

  • Have you come across products that felt forced because of their AI features?

  • What are some areas where human input still matters most?

Should you offer free access when launching a paid product on Product Hunt?

I'm seeing more products launch on Product Hunt that require payment to actually use any features. No free trial, no freemium tier, just a download that leads straight to a paywall.

Part of me thinks this makes sense. If your product has real value, why give it away? People on Product Hunt understand they're looking at premium tools. Plus offering free access can attract users who will never pay anyway.

But I also see the argument for temporary free access during launch. Product Hunt users want to actually try what they're upvoting. How can they give meaningful feedback or become advocates if they hit a paywall immediately?

How do I get more upvotes? What's the secret behind Product Hunt?

Hey makers,

I launched my product recently on Product Hunt. I put effort into the messaging, visuals, and value and was honestly excited to share it. But after 24 hours, I ve barely gotten any traction. A handful of upvotes, no meaningful feedback just cold emails and offers from marketers.

Suggestions for meditation apps, or go back to Calm or Headspace?

@mat_sherman and I have been talking about meditation and I was remembering I had tested out @Calm and @Headspace. I searched forums and see references to these in convos 5 years ago. They still seem like the main contenders, but I also just downloaded @Insight Timer App @Breathwrk and https://www.meditatehappier.com/ too.

Anyone have experience with any of these? I'm new to meditation, have tried it a few times but have yet to build a habit and need to! Any recs are greatly appreciated!

What makes an AI interface feel “trustworthy” to you?

Some tools just feel more reliable even if the backend models are similar. Is it the tone, layout, citations, or transparency of the process? What gives you confidence to act on what AI says?

Do you think software will lose its value as a product to build?

Building software is literally getting easier and easier. What I ve noticed is that just a few years ago, you really needed knowledge, a team, and solid know-how to make the whole process work.

But now, with all these tools popping up on the market almost daily like Cursor, Bolt, Lovable, and so many others it s incredibly easy to build software.
