I'm a first-year CS student, and I already don't think the degree is enough. I work part-time at a B2B loyalty startup where I built billing infrastructure and internal ops tooling from scratch. I'm a first author on an IEEE paper applying ML to equity prediction. I run algorithmic trading systems, maintain a Python backtesting pipeline I actually trust, and I'm working through CFA Level 1. My actual view: AI is making syntax free, which makes the CS degree a commodity. What's left is judgment ie knowing why a model fails, how to structure a system, when the numbers are lying. That's what I'm trying to get good at. I build things at the intersection of ML and markets. I ship. I'm on Product Hunt because I want to be around other people who do.
