Product Hunt tagline "Open-source Mixpanel for ecommerce" is different from what I see & understand from the website. From what I gather, Octo.ai is more like a set of tools to store & access all my 'trackable' data, am I right?
@nikitakorotaev Actually, the title is a subset function of what Octo does (X for Y) as you have rightly identified. The underlying goal is to ensure all your analytics data (as high resolution as you want) stays with you in your data center or an independent cloud setup.
We are further able to push this data to existing analytics services, and also perform more or less the same functions as them on this dataset (with our own dashboard). Hope this clarifies!
@hadifarnoud we are working with a very large content company in india, which would be a decent case study! No large ecomm has yet responded positively. We figured trust was a major issue, to mitigate that we have prioritized going open source.
The ticket sizes in india for such contracts post open source hardly change given the level of customizations the end product needed! The core would be useful for way more than just analytics imho.
Really appreciate the advice! Would you recommend any case study that we should take inspiration from?

We are effectively a middleware that allows all web/mobile companies to store all their analytics data and yet continue to operate in there usual way (i.e use Google Analytics, Mix panel, and so on). We initially started wanting to do sophisticated user personalization, somewhere along the line we figured out that the raw data necessary for doing any form of statistical analysis was missing and hence, here we are!
The title may look misleading, but we also fulfill the functions of Mixpanel (or GA or other larger marketing automation tools) through out internal tools and dashboards. Effectively, this is a subset feature from our point of view. We are closer to being an open source segment.io, though they are not as popular ;). Please give us more feedback, enable us to understand how to build, market and sell better! Thanks.

Can I deploy this for my shopify account as well? Or is it only for big e-commerce players?

@abhishek_rai You can use it with Shopify. You may use the metafields of product fields to precompute and store the recommendations. Avoid JS based solution for better SEO effects.
