most upvotedI don't mean to break up the love fest but this is one of the stupidest things ever shared on here. Gimmicks like this don't encourage adoption and the supply of wine bottles usable with this will alway be limited at best.
@joshuaarnao I think this idea as a novelty is pretty cool, but not practical. I like the idea of being able to read/interact with your wine using the touch screen, but entering another walled garden, now for grapes, is just not feasible. As for the "preserver" function of the product mentioned by @rickbreslin, I think the Coravin does a much better job by allowing for a naturally airtight "reseal" using the needle/cork method. That allows for storage for years/past 30 days.
All of that being said, I'm a huge gadget head, so from a tech standpoint this is still pretty cool, I just can't see it really catching on with the majority of wine drinkers. Keep innovating though Kuvée, and build out your network of wineries!

@patrickryanlane box wine does the same thing with a vacuum sealed bag.

@joshuaarnao Look man! I'm going to buy this and put it in my internet fridge okay, sorted!

@joshuaarnao You're rougher than I was. I almost said this was a solution in search of a problem, but the idea and execution looks good. Problem is just the limited amounts of wine that will be available.
I did run into a wine maker in Southern OR that's been kegging his wines for restaurants and events. No bottle waste and he charges for exactly what people use. And being in the keg, its stable and lasts a long time. Seen a couple of other things like it. I think Di Arie had a wine ball that held 2-3 bottles in mylar and as you used it, the ball forced air into the surrounding ball. Tried finding a link but couldn't.
We drink enough wine I almost bought a cruvinet system for our house. I'd rather be able to pick from a wine selection than have to finish a bottle before opening the next one.
(Edit - didn't finish reading all the other comments. Someone else pulled the "solution in search of a problem" comment. Wasn't plagiarizing, if I'd see that comment first, I wouldn't have used it myself).

I've been using it in beta for 4 months and it truly elevates the wine experience. Highly recommend it.

As a wine "professional" this looks like a great idea, however my question is - Are you only buying wines from Kuvee in their special bottles for use with this? If so, really limited use.
M
@sacbookreviewer good question! You can currently only buy wine from Kuvee but the selection is expanding rapidly.
Rick Breslin — Maker (Hello Vino), Product, UI/UX
@sacbookreviewer Agreed. I would love this as a wine preserving alternative to Coravin, but we need a little more info about the source of the juice.
Ross Rojek — CTO, GoLocalApps
@rickbreslin I only see the limits. Having to convince a wine maker to use a different bottling system is going to be a bottle neck (ha! pun intended!) The end result might be great, but getting enough makers to be worth it will be the hurdle. (btw, like Hello Vino. Probably don't use it as much as I should, but nice app. We're working on a cellaring app for the way I taste and collect, figuring I can't be the only one with my interests and needs.)

Great job solving a big problem for "weekday evening" wine drinkers. However, I'm not sure I need a screen to tell me about the wine--I've got a $600 computer in my pocket that can do that :). You might be able to offer a lower cost version without the screen for a lower cost, thereby increasing your pool of potential customers.
Rick Breslin — Maker (Hello Vino), Product, UI/UX
@jakeanderson919 Agreed. I think this product's main potential is in the "preserver" category, or an upscale packaging alternative to box wine.
Mirco Wilhelm — IT Architect
@rickbreslin @jakeanderson919 given a choice I would still take the box wine over an overprices gadget

My buddy @christianbusch is working on this. If you click the second link (under "Get It") you can get a special offer for Produt Hunt only: $199 for the smart bottle, 4 founders selection wines and an additional $20 in wine vouchers for future purchases. Free Shipping.
I think it is a pretty cool campaign on Indiegogo. Check it out!

I love this product's innovative quality.
This has inspired me to ideate a few possible feature suggestions for a version 2!
The idea is to put a camera on each of the 4 sides of the neck of the bottle..
& add a microphone on each side..
To create a *360 table moments recording device..
Which would connect to your mobile device to transfer *360 footage.
You could furthermore &/or add a speaker on the device which would allow for wine companies to enhance their profiles by adding recommended music for their wines (I think wine companies and enthusiasts will really love this feature)
This additional note includes the option of add multiple USB charging ports to this device.. Really making it the true centre piece at all restaurants and events..
These connections could enable for these bottle devices to play any song from a mobile device via bluetooth..
For further details, please regard to the following:

As a technology lover, this is amazing. As a wine snob, I don't see myself using this. But I do appreciate the fact that many would love this. Cool idea.

I've had a chance to try this product last month and am impressed by the way it keeps wine fresh and helps folks like me who don't drink full bottles every night.
Joseph Flaherty — Founder Collective
I've used this a few times during the beta and can't imagine a more polished product. There are almost no flaws of note and unlike many crowdfunding programs this one will ship in a timely matter.

There's a special offer available for all hunters here: https://www.indiegogo.com/projec...
It's only $199 including 4 bottles of wine plus another $20 credit towards future purchases.

Very intrigued. Seems like they are missing a Sodastream like accessory though...something to bottle/save wine that is not offered by Kuvee directly.

This is a very creative concept. Reminds me of the Coravin, which is also an innovative apparatus related to drinking wine without having to commit to the entire bottle. Sure, wine doesn't taste the same the next day, but more often than not (especially with bigger reds) it tastes BETTER the next day. Just cork it and pop it in the fridge. I like the wine-info aspect, but why not get rid of the screen and make an app? Love the spot, fun idea, good luck!

Oh ... My ... God! (Janice's voice). You should not allow texting to your ex from this bottle 😄 or you could make like an additional feature 😄

For me, this is a solution in search of a problem - if you don't finish a bottle, a simple vacuum closer will solve the problem just fine.
Also, we already have a simple, recyclable, environmentally sound way to store wine. It's called a bottle, with a paper label on it. Now, we're adding a bunch of more electro-garbage to landfill every time there's an updated model or the battery dies.

"what are you gonna do, open two bottles?" Are they not eating the same food. I don't understand.
but also why don't you just sell the wine in a cask.... which was invented in Australia in the 1960's. For a long time it held a stigma as being cheap and poor quality however you can now find higher quality wines starting to appear in this form. Why not just solve the problem of having an open bottle of wine (which lets be honest isn't a problem for wine drinkers) with a beautifully elegant and simple solution such as the cask?

I drink a lot of wine, so I was hoping that this would appeal to me. Problem is that you're at their mercy for inventory.
Go with a @coravin if you drink lots of wine and only want a glass at a time.

I still scratch my head about this product. It seems to be targeting people that don't know anything about wine and have too much money to buy simple boxed wine.
If the main selling argument is keeping wine "fresh" if you don't drin a whole bottle, there are plenty of products out there, that do just that with any bottle you throw at them: http://www.amazon.com/Vinotemp-V...
To me, all this product does is limit the supply to supportd wines, sell yet another tech gadget that needs battery charging while adding nothing to the experience a simple smartphone app couldn't do.

As an investor in Kuvee, I appreciate reading the negative feedback because it's helpful to understanding people's concerns. I think some of the criticism focuses on the less significant features of the system (as if the screen or wifi was attached just to have a screen or wifi). However, the concern about the wine catalogue is very important and will quickly be mitigated by hundreds of bottles, which I think will satisfy a broad base of users.
The device shouldn't be compared with Coravin, which is terrific when used with much more expensive bottles, but isn't for the mainstream consumer. Nor is it comparable to boxed wine which does not have the same level of preservation or experience. In terms of other simple preservation systems - they truly don't compare in terms of the quality of the wine after a few days, let alone a week or even a month.
Here's more about why we invested and are so excited about Kuvee https://medium.com/@foundercolle...
