Most articles arrive wrapped in banners, pop-ups and sidebars, so it's hard to focus on the words. Zen Reader turns any page into a calm, distraction-free reading space with one shortcut (Alt+Z). Made for people who read long articles, docs and tutorials online, and for students. • 66 themes, 28 fonts, adjustable size and width • Highlights and saved articles • Look up any word in the page • Read Aloud, export to Markdown or PDF • Works without an account. Free, with an optional one-time Pro.

Hi Product Hunt, I'm Rojins, a solo developer. 👋
When I was a student I spent hours reading articles, tutorials and docs online, and the pages around the text kept getting in the way: banners, pop-ups, sidebars. So I built Zen Reader for myself. Press Alt+Z (or click the icon) and the page becomes a quiet reading page, in the font and theme you choose.
What you can do: highlight passages, save articles, look up a word without leaving the page, listen with Read Aloud, and export to Markdown or PDF. It works without an account, there are no ads, and your reading stays on your device unless you choose to sign in and sync.
It's free, with an optional one-time Pro ($7.99, no subscription) that removes the limits on saved articles and highlights and adds extra themes.
It won't work on every site. If you find a page that reads badly, send me the link and I'll look at it.
Two questions for you: which site do you wish reader mode handled better? And what would make you use it every day?
@rojins really cool idea! Especially here in Germany you can't read ONE article without any distraction. I'm curious, though: How does Zen Reader handle articles with paywalls?
@denise_louis Thanks Denise, and good to hear it fits the German web too! 🙂 Zen Reader doesn't get around paywalls. It reads what your browser gets from the page, so if you're logged in with a subscription you'll see the full article in the reader, and if you're not, you'll see the same teaser the site shows. I haven't tested many paywalled sites yet, so if you try one and it reads badly, send me the link and I'll look. Which sites are the worst for you in Germany?
