Hi Hunters! 👋
Two years ago I got tired of pressing play on yet another 4-minute WhatsApp voice message to extract one sentence. So I built ZapVox.
**What it does**
ZapVox sits next to every audio in WhatsApp Web with a 🎙️ button. Click it (or let it auto-transcribe) and you get the text in ~3 seconds. 99+ languages, fully encrypted, no audio ever leaves your machine in the clear.
**How it works**
- AI cascade: Groq Whisper Large v3 (primary) → Gemini 2.0 Flash → OpenAI (fallbacks)
- Local decryption: ZapVox decrypts encrypted blobs using HKDF-SHA256 + AES-256-CBC — same crypto WhatsApp uses internally
- Manifest V3 + TypeScript, Supabase Edge Functions
**Plans**
- Free: 10 transcriptions/day + BYOK Groq unlimited
- Trial: 7 days full, no card
- Pro: $3.99/mo (USD) or R$29.90/mo (BRL — auto-routed by IP)
Just got approved on the Chrome Web Store. Built solo over 2 years. Happy to answer technical or product questions — Diego 🇧🇷

honestly this looks super useful, the encryption angle is a nice touch. one thing though, can you add a way to set it to auto transcribe only when the voice note is over like 30 seconds, basically skip the short ones so it doesn't interrupt the flow for casual messages

The local-first encryption angle is genuinely cool, love that audio never leaves my machine unencrypted. One thing that would make it click for my workflow though is a keyboard shortcut inside WhatsApp Web so I can transcribe without clicking anything, maybe just highlight the audio and hit a hotkey. Would save a ton of time when I have a backlog of voice notes to get through.

Finally a solution to those endless voice notes. Tried it on a Spanish message and the summary was actually useful, not just a raw transcript.
