Layoff anxiety is widespread and rising across knowledge work but the information people get is generic (“update your résumé”) or frightening (headlines, rumors). No one receives a personal, calibrated read on their own situation, so they doom-scroll, guess, and find out too late. Company trajectory, hiring and funding patterns, role exposure and personal-career markers already foreshadow risk; nobody assembles them. Read them honestly and pair every read with a next step, and anxious people lean in where a bare, scary number makes them look away. Our bet. Signals are enough. Public web data can calibrate an individual’s risk into a defensible band. Trust beats alarm. People act on an honest, action-paired band far more than on a bare number.

Funny overlap actually, both FoxPlug and Wiglo are about turning raw signals into something a person can act on, you with product data into content, us with career signals into a calibrated layoff-risk read. FoxPlug sounds like a clean way to keep that fresh without it turning into a full-time job. Good luck building in public.

I've spent years close enough to how companies actually run to see how blindsided people get by layoffs. The cruel part is the signals are usually there well before the meeting. Funding gaps, hiring freezes, a team that quietly stops shipping. Most people just don't have anyone reading those signals for them in time. That's the whole reason Wiglo exists. If you've been through a layoff, did you feel like you could see it coming, or did it genuinely come out of nowhere?
