I started lifting about a year ago and kept hitting the same wall. Anatomy sites
give you Latin names and insertion points. Fitness sites give you exercise lists
with nothing behind them. Nothing connected the two, nobody would just tell me
what a movement actually trains.
So WhatMuscle does both directions. Hover the body to find a muscle, see what it
does and what trains it. Or pick an exercise and watch every muscle it recruits
light up, primary and secondary shown differently, and the figure turns to
whichever side of the body that exercise is mostly on.

Two things I'd call out:
The 3D body is real anatomy, not an illustration. It comes from Z-Anatomy, an
open-source Blender atlas used for teaching, with each muscle as its own mesh,
which is why individual ones can be lit rather than a whole region glowing.
Every word on the site is written from scratch, and that wasn't the plan. The
public exercise dataset most fitness sites are built from turned out to be a
scrape of a commercial site, I checked 31 instruction steps at random and every
one was identical to a 2013 archive capture. So I wrote all 711 exercise pages
myself, which took considerably longer than building the thing.
Every exercise page has the technique steps plus the four mistakes that make the
movement stop working. That second half is the part I could never find anywhere
else.
I'd really like to know: is the 3D model the thing you'd use, or would you go
straight to the exercise pages? I've been guessing, and I'd rather not.
And if you spot an anatomical error, tell me, one already got caught during the
