I was spending 30+ minutes every Sunday figuring out what to eat, scrambling for recipes, and making a chaotic grocery list. I knew I needed a simple system, so I built this template for myself first.
At first, I overcomplicated it, trying to add databases, relations, and formulas to auto-generate shopping lists.
So I stripped it down to the essentials: a clean weekly meal table, notes for tags and reminders, and an organized grocery checklist by category. That's it.
The biggest evolution was shifting from 'building for myself' to 'building for others.' I realized the template needed to be blank and customizable, not pre-filled with recipes. That way, people can make it their own immediately.
I also spent time on the design and copy, making sure it felt approachable and not intimidating. Most people avoid templates because they think they're too complicated to set up.
The whole process—from learning Notion to launching—took about a whole day. But the biggest lesson was: simplicity sells. People don't want fancy; they want functional and something that makes life easier.
