Hi Product Hunt 👋 I'm Jake. I teach middle school english and run a lot. Runners know a particular kind of panic that hits around mile seven, when the water bottle is empty and the nearest bathroom is somewhere in the next town. I built Waypoint so that moment happens less often. What it does Waypoint is a map of the things runners care about and other map apps ignore: public water fountains and public restrooms. No coffee shops that want you to buy a scone first. The map starts from OpenStreetMap data, and runners add to it with community pins, each of which can carry one photo. The first person to open a new area triggers an import for that area, and everyone after them gets the results. So if your town is empty today, you can fix that by looking at it. Plan the route around the stops Draw a route, set your pace in minutes per mile, and Waypoint labels every fountain and restroom by how far along the route it sits. "Fountain at 3.2 mi" turns out to be more useful than a pin floating in space. You can export the route as a GPX file to Strava. Strava's importer quietly drops waypoints, so Waypoint also gives you a stop list you can paste into the route description, plus a tip for adding Custom Waypoints if you're a subscriber. A hydration plan that checks the weather The hydration advisor pulls the forecast for your run and estimates how much sweat you'll lose based on whether you rate yourself a light, average, or heavy sweater. (Everyone thinks they're average. Many are mistaken.) You can enter distance, time, or both, since nobody really knows how long a long run will take. Your body weight and sweat rate stay on your device and are never sent to a server. Strava, done politely If you connect Strava (invite only during beta), you can import your saved routes, attach a hydration plan to an activity, and add a short Waypoint summary to that activity's description. Nothing gets posted unless you tap the button. Your Strava data is visible only to you, and it never feeds the hydration advisor, which works from weather and physiology alone. The fine print • Free to use, with no account. Waypoint uses an anonymous device ID. • It's a progressive web app, so you open getwaypoint.run in a browser and can add it to your home screen without going through an app store. • Coverage is strongest in metro Boston, where it started, and it grows wherever people open the map.
