I'm Yaroslav, the creator of VRAM Shield.
I built this utility out of pure frustration. Like many of you, I started running heavy local AI workloads (Stable Diffusion, local LLMs like Gemma-4) on my high-performance creator laptop. On paper, my cooling system was fine. Windows Task Manager showed a comfortable GPU core temp of 75°C.
But fifteen minutes into any sustained workload, my generation speed fell off a cliff, dropping by up to 75%.
It felt like a software bug, but after weeks of digital detective work, I uncovered the truth: the GPU core was cool, but the high-density VRAM (Memory Junction) was secretly cooking at 105°C under the quiet fan profile. The hardware was triggering emergency downclocking behind my back.
Traditional undervolting didn't help because VRAM operates on independent power rails. So I built VRAM Shield to solve this at the software layer.
What is VRAM Shield?
It's a lightweight portable Windows utility (no installation required) that acts as a proactive safeguard for your laptop's memory:
- Pulse Throttling: Introduces millisecond-level pauses in the GPU compute stream, giving the shared copper heat pipes time to clear the heat soak without crashing your performance.
- Smart Throttling (PRO): An adaptive PID-controller engine that dynamically adjusts those micro-pauses in real-time based on actual thermal trends to keep your frame rates and generation speeds fluid.
- Strictly Honest: No telemetry, no background services, no ads.

To ensure absolute safety, our standalone build is officially published in the Microsoft WinGet repository (winget install 53Software.VRAMShield) and verified clean by Microsoft Defender and Kaspersky (1/69 on VirusTotal).
