Hi Product Hunt! 👋 I'm Perwaiz, the maker of VoltSolar.
I built it because when I tried to answer a simple question, "how many solar panels does an electric car need?", I found either vague answers or installer sales pages. So I made a calculator that just shows the math.
A few things I found while building it:
☀️ The same Tesla Model Y needs 5 panels in Arizona but 11 in Alaska
⛽ Solar charging works out to about 2.5¢ a mile vs about 15¢ for gas
🔋 Most people don't need a home battery to charge an EV with solar
