Disclaimer: magnetic cables are not for everyone. They have their limits—e.g., they're easier to disconnect than a regular cable, and that's their main feature. So do not expect to use them where supply of power or data has to be maintained constantly no matter what (e.g., for stationary devices without their own power backup or storage arrays.) Also, no magnetic cables or adapter are (or can be) USB certified and hence they should be used with caution. Treat them as any other 3rd party accessory which theoretically can brick your laptop and void the warranty. This is not specific to Volta Max; this is just the general state of the industry.
With all that said, magnetic cables is truly a game changer. They make connection easier—and, in some respects, safer. E.g., I had a laptop knocked off the table by a cat who pulled by a dock cable. Not only this broke the dock beyond repair, but it also damaged the port on the laptop. This is exactly the kind of issues magnetic cables solve. So, do not get fooled by the "strongest connection" buzz. You don't want it to be super-strong or "military grade." You want it to disconnect relatively easily, especially if pulled off suddenly.
Here's another hot take. The convenience of a magnetic connection is best realized when you embrace it and adopt it widely. If you only use a magnetic cable with one device, it becomes more of a burden than an improvement. Because, inevitably, you'll have to mix and match magnetic and regular cables, and this becomes a PITA. If you regularly find yourself in a situation where you have to remove the tip in order to use a regular, non-magnetic cable, then there's no point of going magnetic at all. You just trade one plug-and-unplug scenario with an even harder one.
The true value is only realized if and when you're able to replace all (or almost all) cables in your household with magnetic ones and supply every device with a tip which sits permanently there. Set it and forget it, literally. Only then you can feel the quality-of-life improvement. You won't realize how effortless it is, compared to regular cables, until you get used to it. But once you do, you'll never want to go back.
And unlike some other brands, Volta delivers. Their magnetic tech is top notch. They consistently fulfill on their crowdfunding campaigns and have an established ecosystem of multiple generations of products working together—including tips, thick and powerful magnetic cables (Volta Max) and magnetic adapters. The latter are compatible with regular non-magnetic cables and the same tips as Volta Max. Moreover, they never stop innovating, with a thinner, less capable magnetic cable (Volta Max Lite) coming soon. Yes, branding could be clearer, but that's nitpicking.
While other vendors prioritize ridiculous charging speeds and settle on USB 2.0 data transfer, Volta is the only brand (besides some no-name AliExpress sellers) offering full Thunderbolt compatibility with their tips and magnetic adapters (but not cables, at least, not yet.) So, you can attach a Volta magnetic adapter to your dock with a captive cable and have magnetic docking connection with full Thunderbolt speeds and features. Now, that's what I call innovation.
Volta's magnetic cables (Volta Max) are limited to USB 3 Gen 2Ă—2 speeds (20 Gbps) which may sound modest comparing to Thunderbolt capabilities of their own magnetic adapter. But that's still plenty for most applications, and it's lightyears ahead of other magnetic cable brands.
I cannot comment on Volta support experience, but this is only because of quality of their products. I've been using their cables, adapters and tips for the last 1,5 years across a dozen-plus devices and have no failures in major components. (A few tips broke, but they're dispensable—and it their failures did not impact anything else).
