I kept handing Claude Code a long refactor, closing the lid, and coming back to find it had stopped two minutes in because my Mac went to sleep. caffeinate fixes that, but bluntly — it keeps the machine awake whether anything is happening or not. I wanted the Mac to stay up only while the agent is actually generating, and to sleep normally the rest of the time. That turned out to be the interesting part. Lifecycle hooks miss too much (Ctrl+C never fires a stop event, API errors take a different path), so instead it reads the session state each CLI already keeps on disk. Undocumented, so it may break when they change — the README says so plainly. Free, MIT, and localized into 9 languages. It needs your admin password once, because macOS only lets a privileged helper stop the Mac sleeping with the lid shut — the setup screen explains exactly what gets installed.
