Hi, I'm Zac. I made Vapor on my own in Melbourne over the last year and a bit, mostly in the evenings.
The idea is small on purpose. Every app I tried wanted paragraphs and I never had paragraphs. Most days I had one word. So Vapor asks for one word, and an optional line if the day needs it, and that's the whole journal. After a while the words become a calendar you can read, a cloud of what you've felt most, and a forecast of your inner weather written from phrases a person wrote by hand. I wanted a mirror, not a coach.
The other thing that mattered to me was where the words live. They stay on your phone. No accounts, no cloud sync, no analytics. The two things that ever leave the device are opt-in and either anonymous (a count of how many people wrote the same word today) or end-to-end encrypted (small circles of friends who see each other's one word). The server can't read a word either way.
It's free, and so is encrypted backup. Premium is optional, starts with a free trial, and is about finishing your words: a monthly recap film, printables, palettes and typefaces. If you're on iPhone, the code PH2026 gets you a month of Premium free: https://apps.apple.com/redeem?ctx=offercodes&id=6764182499&code=PH2026
Honest state of things: it launched quietly in May, a few hundred people have tried it, and I'm here because I'd like more to find it and because I'd like to hear what's wrong with it from people who'll say so. Ask me anything about the build or the choices.
