I built UpStat because I got tired of finding out my APIs where down from users complaining, not from my monitoring tool. I started with a simple Node.js backend that pinged URLs every minute. Then I added email alerts. Then WhatsApp alerts, because in Brazil everyone uses WhatsApp and it's way faster than email for urgent stuff. Over time it grew into a full platform: public status pages, SSL monitoring, a Go CLI, an npm SDK, post-mortem reports. Every feature came from a real pain I had or feedback from early users. The biggest lesson: distribution is harder than building. The product works.
