Hey Product Hunt 👋
I love dictation 🎙️
I use it whenever I can: searching Google, talking to AI tools, writing notes, emails, documents, ideas, and pretty much anywhere there's a text field on my Mac.
The problem was that dictation never felt consistent.
Some apps had decent voice input. Others didn't. Every tool had different shortcuts, different speeds, different interfaces, different animations, and a different way to interact with it.
I found myself constantly switching between workflows depending on where I was typing.
That constantly broke my flow.
What I really wanted was one dictation experience that worked the same way everywhere.
So I built uho Dictation.
The idea was simple:
⌨️ Press Fn.
🎙️ Speak.
✅ Press Fn again.
Your words appear exactly where you're already working.
• No extra windows
• No switching apps
• No changing your workflow
🔒 uho runs entirely on your Mac using local Whisper models, so your voice never leaves your device.
What surprised me most is how many new use cases I keep finding for it.
Sometimes I dictate directly into an app.
Sometimes I replace selected text with speech.
Sometimes I forget to place the cursor where I need it, but the transcription is already waiting in the clipboard, ready to paste anywhere.
I wasn't trying to build perfect transcription.
I was trying to make dictation feel like a natural part of using a computer.
Something that upgrades your Mac with a fast, reliable, predictable voice layer that works everywhere.
🚀 Today I'm launching the first public version.
• Works in any Mac app
• Offline transcription with local Whisper
• Press Fn to start and stop
• Built for Apple Silicon
• Free 3-day trial
• One-time lifetime license
❤️ I'd love your feedback.
If you spend your day writing, coding, researching, studying, or talking to AI, what would make dictation feel truly invisible in your workfl
@sasha_buratynskyi Thanks! 🙌
Whisper is the speech recognition engine, while uho Dictation is the complete dictation experience built around it.
My goal wasn’t just transcription accuracy. I wanted dictation to feel like a natural part of using a Mac.
uho gives you a global shortcut (Fn), works in any app, inserts text directly where you’re already working, supports clipboard fallback, and keeps the same workflow everywhere on your Mac.
You can think of Whisper as the engine, while uho is the car built around it. 😊
@sasha_buratynskyi If you mean MacWhisper, I’d say the main difference is focus. MacWhisper is an excellent transcription tool for audio and video files, while uho is built around everyday dictation. My goal was to create one consistent dictation workflow that works everywhere on the Mac: press Fn, speak, press Fn again, and keep working.
Hi there,
I just had to reach out and say thank you. I’ve been struggling with native dictation for so long, and your app is exactly what I needed.
I love it and want to buy it very soon. I was just wondering, do you have a rent-to-own subscription option, or plans to add one?
Keep up the awesome work!
@oleksandr_saveliev Thank you so much! 🙌
Comments like this are exactly why I built uho Dictation in the first place.
I spent a long time struggling with native dictation myself and wanted something that felt simple, fast, and consistent everywhere on the Mac.
At the moment, uho is available as a one-time lifetime license because I wanted to avoid subscriptions and keep the pricing straightforward.
That said, a rent-to-own option is an interesting idea, and I’ll definitely keep it in mind as the product grows.
Thanks again for the support — and I’m really happy to hear uho solves a problem you’ve been dealing with for a long time 😊
It’s really useful tool for avoiding the typing. If I want to text someone and don’t want to type, I use this app uho.Dictation.
If I want to make some notes but I struggle with typing, I use this app 😊
Easy. It makes communication simpler.
👍
@new_user___16620260d6ecfddd82246bb Thank you so much! 😊
You’ve described the exact problem I was trying to solve.
Sometimes typing feels like unnecessary friction when all you want to do is communicate an idea. My goal with uho was to make speaking feel as natural and effortless as possible.
Really happy to hear it’s helping you!
