Hi everyone, I’m the maker of TurboKiller. It’s a small menu bar app that lets you turn Turbo Boost off and back on on an Intel Mac. Turning it off may help with heat and fan noise, at the cost of performance.
I don’t think a simple toggle needs a price tag, so I’m keeping it free and open source. The bundled kext comes from the open-source Turbo Boost Switcher project. Thanks to its authors and the original DisableTurboBoost.kext author for the work this relies on.
A few things to know before trying it: you’ll need an Intel Mac running macOS 13+, and compatibility is still experimental. It uses a background helper and a legacy kernel extension. You can keep SIP enabled. The app is Developer ID signed but isn’t Apple-notarized, so please read the installation notes.
If you try it, let me know whether it works on your Mac. Your model, macOS version and any error messages would help!
