I'm excited to launch Torousel a lightweight rotating Tor proxy designed for web crawling, scraping, and privacy-focused networking.
Most rotating Tor proxy solutions work by spawning hundreds of Tor instances, often combined with HAProxy and Privoxy. That approach works, but it's heavy, resource-intensive, and difficult to scale.
Torousel takes a different approach:
- One lightweight container
- One Tor process (using Arti, the Rust implementation of Tor)
- Hundreds of isolated circuits using SOCKS authentication isolation
- A Go-based HTTP proxy that automatically rotates requests across circuits
- No HAProxy, no Privoxy, no managing hundreds of processes
In practice, this means you can get access to hundreds of rotating exit IPs while using a fraction of the memory and CPU that traditional approaches require.
