I’m Halbert, one of the makers behind TopoAI and an IT engineer. I work across presales and post-sales support for integrated IT projects, from solution design and proposal reviews to implementation and handover. Network diagrams are how we explain a solution and show how it will actually be deployed. I usually create more than ten diagrams a week, and there are weeks when I spend two evenings working late just to keep projects moving. The idea for TopoAI came from a new university campus project covering network infrastructure, security, video surveillance, and wireless systems. The campus had many zones and equipment from 12 vendors, so we needed detailed diagrams for both bidding and implementation in each area. For one entire week, we drew diagrams every day, often spending more than an hour on each one. We would survey the site, mark device locations in hand-drawn sketches, and then rebuild those sketches as professional topology diagrams. Finding the right icons, connecting devices, adjusting layouts, and adding annotations took a surprising amount of time—and often kept us working late. That experience led us to build TopoAI. We want to help engineers turn technical requirements into editable network diagrams, convert sketches or reference images into diagrams they can continue refining, and use AI to add devices, reroute links, or improve layouts. Professional review still matters. Our goal is not to replace engineering judgment, but to reduce repetitive drawing work so engineers can spend more time on the solution itself.
