👋 Hello, I'm Spencer, maker of Timeline Scan.
Last year I scanned 8,000 of my family's photos. The scans looked great, but every photo app sorted them by the only date they had: the day I scanned them. Twenty years of family history collapsed over a few months, with my parents' wedding sitting next to last week's family photos.
Timeline Scan fixes that. Upload your scans and the AI works out when each photo was actually taken, using the same clues a person would:
The orange timestamp old film cameras printed in the corner
Lab stamps and processing dates on the back of the print
Handwriting on the back ("Christmas 96", names, places)
The people in the photo and how old they look
Era clues in the scene: decor, clothing, the film stock itself
File names, folder names, and the photos scanned around it
It writes the recovered date into each file's metadata (your pictures are never altered, we only fix the date), so your collection snaps into chronological order in Apple Photos, Google Photos, Immich, or plain folders.

Would love to see an option to flag photos where the AI date guess is uncertain, maybe with a confidence score, so I can quickly review just those instead of trusting every estimate blindly.
@cihanerany22p it does show a confidence score when you open the details of a photo. You can see it in the 3rd screenshot. I did have an option that surfaces very low scoring dates but it got complicated for the older folks who usually have the scanned photos so I opted to simplify the UI.
Finally scanned my parents' old albums and Timeline Scan nailed dates I'd been guessing at for years, including one Christmas I thought was 1986 but was actually 1984. The export to my Google Photos library worked smoothly too.
