A board of 64 squares. Square 1 was $1, square 64 is $9,223,372,036,854,775,808. One square for sale at a time; buy it and it's yours forever: your picture, your words, a permanent URL. No ads, no links, no takebacks. Nobody will ever buy square 64. That's the joke.

Hi PH š
I built The Doubling Board as a joke about exponential growth, and then I built the checkout, so now it's a joke you can pay for.
How it works:
64 squares. Square n costs $2^(nā1). So $1, $2, $4 ⦠$8,192 at square 14, half a million at square 20, and square 64 costs more money than exists.
Only one square is for sale at a time, the cheapest unsold one. Want a specific square? Buy every square between the one on sale and yours, in one go. That's the only way to skip the line.
A square is yours forever: a picture, up to 500 characters, a permanent URL like doublingboard.com/7. You can edit it whenever you like. No links, no ads. It's a trophy, not a billboard.
Some things I think are fun about it:
The ledger. Everyone can see who paid what. The person who bought square 13 for $4,096 is going to feel very differently about it than the person who paid $1.
The counter on the homepage: "Humanity's progress toward owning the whole board: 0.00000000000000068%".
At some point the only sensible move is to stop, and nobody can tell exactly where that is.
Full disclosure: I'm a solo dev in Argentina and I built this as a joke, but I also have some debt I'm digging out of, so if anyone buys square 3 for $4 I'll be genuinely, unreasonably happy.
Happy to answer anything. And no, I won't tell you who I think buys square 20.
