Terento is a free, open-source macOS app for installing and managing maps on Garmin smartwatches. Connect your watch, choose regions, and install maps without manual file transfers or MTP tools.
Hi Product Hunt,
This is Terento, a small open-source macOS project I started because getting maps onto a Garmin watch from a Mac was more frustrating than it should be.
The main idea is simple: connect the watch, choose the regions you want, and install the maps without manually moving files around or dealing with MTP tools. Terento currently works with Freizeitkarte maps and is focused on Apple Silicon Macs and Garmin smartwatches. It shows storage before installation, keeps track of the maps it installs, and lets you back them up or remove them later without touching existing Garmin maps.
A big part of the project is safety. Terento tries to keep technical details out of the way, but it is deliberately conservative about what it writes to the watch. Device compatibility is also built from real installation reports shared by users, so support for more Garmin models improves as people test it.
It’s still an early beta and I’m actively working on it. Specific feedback would be genuinely useful.
What feels confusing or unnecessary? Which Garmin model are you using? Did detection and installation work as expected? And what would need to change before you would trust Terento for your own watch?
