Tempo blocks the apps you choose — Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, games — and reopens them only with minutes of real activity. Workouts and steps from Apple Health or Health Connect fill a balance of screen minutes, at the exchange rate you set. Above zero, every locked app opens; at zero, iOS shuts them again, even with Tempo closed. No ignore button, no emergency exit, no code. No account, no server, no analytics. Free on iPhone and Android.
Hi Product Hunt ! I built Tempo because every app blocker I tried had the same flaw: the exit asks nothing of you. Screen Time has “Ignore Limit for Today”. Blockers have emergency modes, or a timer that lifts the block on its own. Sooner or later you tap through.
Tempo removes the button. Your blocked apps share one balance of screen minutes, and the only thing that fills it is a workout or steps, read from Apple Health or Health Connect. You pick the exchange rate: 1 minute of exercise for 1, 2 or 3 screen minutes. Above zero, everything opens; at zero, iOS shuts it all again, even with Tempo closed.
A few things I cared about: workouts typed by hand into Health don’t count (the obvious cheat is closed). Earned minutes expire after 24 hours, so you can’t bank a week for one Sunday. And nothing leaves your phone: no account, no server, no analytics.
It’s not parental control: you can uninstall it. Strict mode (Pro) just puts 24 hours between the urge to loosen a setting and its effect.
The free version blocks unlimited apps and lets you spend 60 screen minutes a day. I’d love to hear where it breaks for you.
